Of course God has a sense of humour! Spending time with God usually makes you happy, not sad. In my experience spiritual people often have a good sense of humour. I think they develop a sense of humour because they spend time with God.
Irony seems to be one of God’s favourites: Jesus used a lot of irony, like when he asked the Scribes: “Have you never read...” when everyone knew the Scribes did nothing but read their Bibles. Paul used irony when he wrote “In fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or pushes himself forward or slaps you in the face. To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that!” (2Cor 11:20). The Bible is full of such irony.
I also think Jesus used a bit of humour when he turned water into wine. Some Christians would rather He made wine into water. As one church leader once said: “We know Jesus turned water into wine, but we don’t approve of it.” Maybe Jesus looked into the future as He worked that miracle, and smiled when He thought about all the problems He gave future preachers of the Gospel?
The funniest thing about God is who He chooses to use. Those who are respected and successful and take themselves very seriously, so often seems to miss out on God’s blessings, while those of us who regularly makes a mess out of things gets blessed by the same God. Now, isn’t that funny?
